Obituary for Izrail Asinovsky

Izrail Asinovsky
Izrail Asinovsky died on March 8th, 2024 at 96 years of age in Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his two daughters Klara and Katherine and his wonderful grandchildren Olga, Sasha, Andrew, Jane, and Nicole and his great grandchild Mila. Although he will be greatly missed, he now joins his late wife, Maria Asinovsky whom he was married to for 36 years and his other grandson Misha in his afterlife.

Born in Belarus on July 30th, 1927 Izrail braved the Holocaust and death of many close family members at a young age. Him and his beloved mother Kayla survived the Blockade during World War 2 and it was this during these times he learned to cook, clean, sew, and upkeep a household. In the words of his daughter Katherine, “he had a gentle loving heart—he was a family man.”

His strength and courage shined during his immigration journey to the United States of America in 1979 with Katherine. Starting over for anyone is challenging, but starting over in an unknown country while caring for a teenage girl, demonstrates a level of love and commitment not many men can withstand.

Not long after their arrival to America, in 1981, he met Maria and her daughter Klara who shared a similar immigration journey. Quickly after their introduction, he loved Klara as as his own and the two families blended. Izrail was a stable provider, a life companion, and a great role model.

In the words of his daughter Klara “he was a swiss army knife—was universal and could do it all.” As a self taught piano and acordian player, history buff, photographer, gardner, book worm, puzzle breaker, and dancer, who adored opera and classical music, his interests and talents were ubiquitous.

We celebrate the life of Izrail and remember his lust for travel, talent for singing and piano playing, and quick wit and intellectual nature not only today but everyday. We keep his memory alive through his stories, our home videos, his long lasting friendships, and the love we share in our hearts.

Please join the family in honoring him at Hanneman Funeral Home at 11:00am on March 11th, 2024.
