Obituary for Farida B. Brillantes

Farida B. Brillantes
Farida (Ida) B. Brillantes, age 85, passed away on February 27, 2024. Born in Tigaon, Philippines, she graduated from The University of Santo Thomas in 1959 with a degree in Nursing, where she made life long friends. She also completed a Master's degree from Teacher's College, Columbia University in 1976. On June 22, 1963, she and Bonifacio Brillantes, Jr. were married; together they immigrated to the United States and raised their family in Orangeburg, NY. Farida had a long career as a Professor of Nursing, spending the majority of her career teaching generations of nurses at the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in New York City. After retiring from Helene Fuld, she went on to become Dean of Nursing at La Consolacion College in Manila, Philippines until her second retirement at age 70. Farida is survived by her four children, Irene, Patrick, Anne-Marie, and Bonifacio III (Don), and four grandchildren, Emily, Adrian, Olivia, and Elizabeth. Services will be held at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, NY on Thursday, March 7 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine’s Church in Blauvelt, NY on Friday, March 8 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helene Fuld College of Nursing at https://www.helenefuld.edu/donate. A fund will be set up in memory of Farida to provide financial aid for future nurses.
