Obituary for Patricia R. Ward

Patricia R. Ward
Patricia was born on June 12, 1950, in Nyack, New York York. She was the only precious daughter born to the late Ralph W. and Ruverna (Brown) Ward.

Patricia graduated from Nyack High School in 1968. In 1970 she graduated from Garland Junior College (A.S. Food and Nutrition); in 1976 she obtained her B.A. in Psychology/Minor Special Education from Marymount Manhattan College and in May1983 she received her M.S. in Special Education. Patricia had a strong interest in Special Education and commenced her career at Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center in 1984. "Miss Pat" was the name that the youth knew her as. She had a gift of utilizing her psychology in a way that was mesmerizing to them. When they plotted, she was always two steps ahead of them.

Her life was filled with love and devotion for God. She was active in the church at an early age. As a child she attended Central Nyack Congregational Church (Community Bible Church) where she sang in the youth choir and was an active member of the Youth Group. In adulthood she joined Marble Collegiate Church in New York City under the pastorate of Rev. Norman Vincent Peale. When she returned to Rockland County, she attended several churches which included Living Christ Church (formerly Simpson Memorial).

Upon her retirement her community involvement included the N.A.A.C.P., and the Nyack Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered her services with Frances Pratt, Nyack Hospital Employee Health Coordinator and President of the Nyack Branch, NAACP. She enjoyed telephoning or mailing articles to keep family and friends up to date with current and past Black History events.

Pat was a person who enjoyed working with people, especially special needs children. Her employment at Letchworth Village entailed working as an educator teaching profoundly retarded adults 30 to 75 years of age. She later transferred to Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center as an educator where she was responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting English/Reading assignments for adolescent students.

The Bible tells us God is our God forever. He was her guide even unto death. He is to be our strength in whom we must trust. Patricia leaves with cherished memories: very special friend of 43 years, Nathaniel Vaughn; cousins, Rev. Cressie Inge (Wassaic, NY), Anthony (Pauline) Brown (Nanuet, NY) and Linella Stewart (Southfield, MI) and childhood friends, Sue Johnson, Jo Ann Perry, and Lewis Forman and a host of family and friends.
