Obituary for Joann Apostle

Joann  Apostle
Joann Apostle, a long time Nyack resident, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 78.

Joann was born at Nyack Hospital on January 29, 1944, to Peter P. Bonomolo Sr. and Emma Beverly (Roth) Bonomolo, and raised in Nanuet.

Joann was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick Farmer, in 1973, and for several years raised two young kids as a single mother working several jobs including in the Nyack Junior High School cafeteria and as a Tupperware lady. She also spent many years as a secretary at Nyack Middle School.

She later married Richard J. Apostle Sr. and their combined family numbered five children. They later retired to Leesburg, Florida, and Rich passed away unexpectedly in 2003.

More recently, Joann has lived in West Haverstraw since 2012, and enjoyed volunteering as a class Foster Grandma at West Haverstraw Elementary.

Joann loved her family more than anything, as well as her friends, who she treated like family. Anyone and everyone was welcomed into her home and she loved hosting cookouts and holiday meals.

She was always active in her children's activities through the years, including with the Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League, Valley Cottage Indians and the Nyack High School Red & Black Booster Club. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Chelsea Hook and Ladder Co. No. 2 of the Nyack Fire Department.

She was a devoted fan of Neil Diamond.

Joann is survived by her children Patricia and John Robinson, Richard J. Apostle, Jr., Anthony and Jennifer Farmer, Holly Farmer and Colleen Mannion, and Thomas Apostle; her grandchildren: John (J. T.) Robinson, Shannon Robinson, Nathaniel Farmer and Josephine Farmer. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Dexter Abrams, sister Barbara Jean Wright, brother and sister-in-law Peter and Patricia Bonomolo, and sister Mary Rose Palumbo. She was predeceased by her sister Sharon Abrams.

She is also survived by many other relatives, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Visiting hours are scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, 3 to 7 p.m. at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack. A service will be held on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
